Former Asante Kotoko tactician Abdul Karim Zito has expressed his displeasure over the club’s recent performances weeks after his departure, while encouraging the team not to give up as the season unfolds.
The Porcupine Warriors, under a new coaching setup, have struggled to grind out results, winning only one game, drawing one and losing two matches since Zito’s exit.
After 25 games in the Ghana Premier League, the two-time Champions League holders find themselves in fifth position with 39 pointsâbelow the expectations of their passionate fan base.
Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Zito, who recently left the club to join AshantiGold SC, expressed strong dissatisfaction with the team’s recent results while urging them not to lose hope.
“I even spoke to them today, and I was furious,” Zito said. “I asked, âWhy are you doing this? What is going on? Please, push on. Don’t give up. I swear.’”
“At the end of the day, I’m a legend. I’m the vice president of a religious association. I played for this club for over 10 years and won a lot with them. Why should I hate it?”
“This is not my first time coming to Kotoko and leaving, and I won’t be the last coach. The club has a legacy, and it must be respected.”
While Zito has moved on to take charge of AshantiGold, his comments serve as a reminder of the high expectations that come with leading one of Ghana’s most storied clubs.
