English-Ghanaian midfielder Hiram Boateng was the hero as York City edged a thrilling 3-2 victory over Hartlepool United at the LNER Community Stadium.
With the game level at 1-1 deep into the second half, Boateng arrived with a crucial strike on 84 minutes to make it 2-1, capping a strong midfield display.
Alex Newby had earlier opened the scoring for York in the 19th minute, before Reiss McNally levelled for Hartlepool before the break. The visitors thought they had snatched a point when Charlie Caton struck in the 90+7 minute to make it 2-2, but there was still late drama to come.
In the 90+13 minute, Josh Stones held his nerve from the penalty spot to restore York’s lead and seal a memorable win for the Minstermen.
Boateng’s goal continues a strong 2025/26 National League campaign for the midfielder, who now has 29 appearances, 3 goals, and 3 assists in the competition.
The result extends York’s impressive recent form and keeps them firmly in the promotion mix heading into their next league fixture away at Wealdstone on Saturday, 14 February.
