Technical advisor Winfried Schäfer has expressed his commitment to helping the Black Stars regain their status as one of Africa’s top football teams.
The German coach was appointed to the role following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Under his guidance, the team secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico this summer.
In an interview with Medeama FM, Schäfer revealed how the Ghana Football Association approached him.
"After the Black Stars failed to qualify for AFCON 2025, the GFA President met me and asked me to join the team as a technical advisor to help them (Black Stars) qualify for the World Cup," he said.
The veteran coach emphasized his ambition to restore Ghana’s prominence on the African football stage.
"I’m happy about this opportunity. Ghana is a big name, the heart of Africa, and I want to help the team reclaim its number one position," Schäfer added.
The Black Stars are set to regroup in March for international friendlies against Austria and Germany as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup.
