As the 2026 FIFA World Cup draws closer, the Ghana Football Association has sent a clear message: the Black Stars technical team fully understands the weight of expectation resting on their shoulders.
Speaking to TV3, GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum stressed that Ghanaian fans, fuelled by decades of historic achievement, will accept no excuses when the team steps onto the global stage.
“When Ghana goes to every tournament, people are expectant. Expectations, for me, will never go down because we have a partisan crowd. We have people who love football, and they don’t care about excuses,” he said.
He pointed to Ghana’s illustrious World Cup historyâthe Round of 16 debut in 2006, the unforgettable quarter-final run in 2010âas the very reason the nation refuses to lower its standards. Even the disappointments of 2014 and 2022 have not dulled the public’s demand for excellence.
“Ghana will always go into competitions with huge expectations from the people, and this, for me, will now escalate that level of expectations,” Asante Twum added.
“But the coaches are aware.”
With Ghana drawn against England, Croatia, and Panama in Group L, the path ahead is formidable. Yet the GFA insists head coach Otto Addo and his expanded technical bench are under no illusion about what is required.
