Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has dismissed suggestions that he is under pressure to deliver silverware with Uganda’s youth national teams.
The 46-year-old was appointed last year to oversee Uganda’s youth setups on a five-year contract, a role that has already seen him steer the Uganda U-17 team to the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The qualification was sealed after a commanding 3-0 win over Ethiopia in the CECAFA U-17 Zonal Qualifiers.
In an interview with Sporty FM, Kingston said his mission is long-term development rather than immediate success in tournaments.
"I'm not under pressure to win a trophy with Uganda. I have only been tasked with building a team for five years," he said.
"That decision has taken away pressure from me, and I am solely focused on building a team. If the trophies come along the way, that is a bonus, but the focus is to build a winsome team," Kingston added.
Kingston brings strong credentials to the role, holding both UEFA A and CAF B coaching licenses.
His experience includes managing Ghana’s U-17 national team and a successful spell at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, where he worked within the club’s Right to Dream Academyâa system renowned for developing young African talent.
