Former Premier League star Didi Hamann has publicly praised English-born Ghanaian midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, hailing the young Manchester United talent's intelligence and quality.
In a strong endorsement, Hamann described Mainoo as a "very clever player" and expressed astonishment that the 20-year-old had faced limited opportunities earlier in the season.
"I was very surprised with the Kobbie Mainoo situation because when I saw him break through at Man United and then in the Euros, it was just a breath of fresh air. A very clever player," Hamann said.
Hamann, a former Liverpool and Germany international, went further in his assessment of Mainoo's potential. "He is an excellent player... If he did decide to move away from Old Trafford, he would be good enough to start for Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Man City."
The praise arrives as Mainoo experiences a career resurgence under interim Manchester United manager Michael Carrick. After being marginalised under previous coach Ruben Amorim, Mainoo has re-established himself as a key component in United's midfield rebuild, with the club now preparing contract talks to secure his long-term future.
Mainoo's performances have drawn attention from other top clubs, including reported interest from Napoli, adding urgency to Manchester United's efforts to retain a player increasingly viewed as foundational to their project.
With United set to face Arsenal in a crucial Premier League clash, Mainoo will have another significant opportunity to demonstrate why he's earned such acclaim from one of the game's respected former players.
