German-Ghanaian striker Ragnar Ache has played himself into serious contention for a regular starting role at FC Koln after a string of high intensity performances under coach Lukas Kwasniok.
The summer signing needed time to settle following his move from Kaiserslautern, but his hard work in training and improved fitness have now changed his status within the squad.
Kwasniok explained that some players simply require an adaptation period, stressing that Ache initially had physical catching up to do but “worked extremely hard” to earn trust step by step. Since the winter break, the striker has started against Heidenheim and Bayern, showing the energy and physical presence required to compete at Bundesliga level and help the team.
Even when used from the bench, Ache has made a strong case for himself. Introduced at half time against Mainz at the end of a busy English week, he transformed the game with two goals and a dominant display, a performance his coach described as the ideal foundation for starting matches from now on.
Kwasniok highlighted that it is not only Ache’s goals that matter, but his work for the team over 90 minutes, especially his aerial strength and robustness."With his quality and heading ability, it's incredibly helpful for me if he's available from the start to the end. I'll be damned if I only use him temporarily, especially if he backs that up with his performances in training,"
Ragnar Ache has played 17 games, scored three goals and assisted three in the Bundesliga this season.
