Retired Ghanaian referee Thomas Nunoo has admitted that his son, referee Julian Nunoo, is concerned over a controversial decision that disallowed Asante Kotoko’s goal against Bibiani GoldStars.
The incident occurred during Matchday 19, when Kotoko visited DUN’s Park to face the Premier League defending champions.
After a tense first half, Samba O’Neil appeared to give the Porcupine Warriors the lead with a header in the second half.
However, Julian Nunoo blew his whistle for a foul, ruling that goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi had pushed his own teammate, and the goal was disallowed. The match ultimately ended 0-0.
The decision sparked outrage among Kotoko supporters, many of whom have called for sanctions against the referee.
Speaking in an interview, Thomas Nunoo, now a CAF and FIFA instructor, acknowledged his son’s mistake.
"My son Julian Nunoo is very much worried about his decision to disallow Asante Kotoko's goal against Bibaini GoldStars," he told Asempa FM.
"He had that decision wrong, and it was about his positioning on the pitch," he added.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is expected to convene a meeting with the match officials to review the incident.
