Erling Haaland has joked about new Manchester City teammate Antoine Semenyo not passing the ball to him following the Ghanaian’s recent move to the club.
Semenyo completed a Ghanaian record £65 million transfer to Manchester City after the Premier League champions triggered his release clause at Bournemouth. The forward has made an early impression at the Etihad, scoring once, providing an assist, and earning the man-of-the-match award in City’s FA Cup win over Exeter on his debut.
Haaland also featured in that match, but despite City scoring 10 goals, the Norwegian striker did not get on the scoresheet. The omission was notable, given that Haaland has already scored 26 goals this season and remains City’s leading scorer, a position he has held since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.
Footage shared after the game captured a light-hearted exchange between the two forwards, with Haaland joking, "He is coming for my Golden Boot, so he is not going to pass to me," to which Semenyo replied, “Nahhhh⦠don’t do that now."
The clip has since gone viral, clearly reflecting a friendly moment between the pair, who appear to be building a strong relationship off the pitch. Haaland has been supportive of Semenyo’s early days at the club, a positive sign for City as they continue their pursuit of the Premier League, Champions League, and domestic honours this season.
Semenyo scored 32 goals during his time at Bournemouth before completing his move to Manchester City.
