Zambia head coach Moses Sichone has lamented the officiating in his side’s 3-0 defeat to Morocco in the third round of the group stage at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking at the post-match press conference after the match on Monday, Sichone admitted that excessive respect for the hosts played a role in the outcome but also voiced strong concerns about the refereeing performance, alleging that it went against Zambia.
“We respected Morocco too much. Some of their players are known for their high level, and we have many young players, but I must also congratulate Morocco.
“The refereeing was unacceptable, and everyone saw how he distributed the yellow cards in only one direction (alleging that the cards were only given to Zambian players). I am sorry for the way this referee managed the match,” Sichone said.
Following the huge defeat to Morocco, Zambia are out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Morocco and Mali progressed to the knockout stage from Group A after finishing first and second, respectively.
