Swedru All Blacks were forced to settle for a share of the spoils after being held to a 1-1 draw by Karela United in their Ghana Premier League matchday 16 encounter at the Swedru Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts came into the game eager to respond to last weekend’s defeat to Bechem United and started the match with purpose, enjoying more possession and territorial dominance in the opening exchanges.
However, clear-cut chances were few and far between in a tightly contested first half, with both sides cancelling each other out in midfield.
Karela remained compact defensively, frustrating the Black Magicians and limiting them to half chances as the first half ended goalless.
All Blacks returned from the break with renewed intensity and were rewarded in the 64th minute.
Ayikabia Solomon Anyork Nereba broke the deadlock after a well-worked move, calmly finding the back of the net to send the home crowd into celebration and put All Blacks ahead.
The lead, however, lasted just six minutes. Karela responded positively and restored parity in the 70th minute through Malik Abubakar, who netted his fourth goal of the season.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, with All Blacks probing for a late breakthrough while Karela looked dangerous on the counter.
Despite the late pressure, neither side could find a decisive goal, and the match ended 1-1.
