Bafana Bafana secured a 1-0 victory over Ghana’s Black Galaxies in a tightly contested international friendly at Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
The match acted as a key preparatory fixture for both sides ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The only goal came in the second half from midfielder Sipho Mbule. South Africa dominated possession with 66% of the ball but struggled to convert their control into clear chances in the first half.
The home side tested Ghana’s defence repeatedly, creating several goal-scoring opportunities.
Led by coach Hugo Broos, the win offers South Africa a crucial boost as they finalise preparations for the AFCON tournament in Morocco. This friendly was their only official warm-up before departure.
Ghana’s Black Galaxies, made up of home-based players since the match fell outside the FIFA international window, used the game to prepare for CHAN qualifiers.
Despite the loss, head coach Kassim Mingle Ocansey described the match as a valuable experience for his squad against a strong South African side.
Ghana created some chances but could not break through the Bafana Bafana defence, leaving the visitors searching for ways to sharpen their attack ahead of upcoming fixtures.
