The lifeless body of Opanin Kofi Gyamfi being carried away
A 35-year-old man has been shot dead by unknown assailants, causing fear and panic among residents of Manso Abore and its environs in the Ashanti Region.
Opanin Kofi Gyamfi, a farmer, was returning from his farm with his 15-year-old son and a dog last Sunday when he was shot in the rib, killing him instantly.
It is unclear what motivated the assailant to shoot Opanin Gyamfi in that bizarre manner.
The police in the area are said to have intensified investigations since Sunday in an attempt to apprehend the culprit to face the law.
A source told DAILY GUIDE that Opanin Gyamfi went to work on the farm in the company of his son and a dog in the morning.
Around 1 pm, the deceased, his son and the dog were returning home with some foodstuffs after several hours of work on the farm.
After walking for some time, Opanin Gyamfi and his son became tired so they decided to stop and rest before continuing the journey.
After resting for a while, they decided to set off but the dog was nowhere to be found so Opanin Gyamfi started searching for the dog.
He finally saw the dog standing in front of a small hole so Opanin Gyamfi, who was curious to know what was in the hole, knelt down to have a proper look into the hole.
No sooner had he knelt than a gun was fired from the thicket around the area with the bullet piercing him in the ribs. It was suspected that the assailant might be hiding in the thicket and fled after the act.
The 15-year-old boy, who was on another farm, rushed to the scene only to find his father lying in a pool of blood, so he rushed home to inform other people.
The matter was reported to the police who went to the bush to convey the body to the morgue for autopsy.
The source alleged that Opanin Gyamfi might have been shot dead due to land litigation.
The paper gathered that farmers were currently afraid to go to their farms.
