Global (Ghana) Ore Industries Limited has paid a courtesy call on the Wassa Fiase Paramountcy to formally announce its presence and present plans for the development of the Abosso-Bompieso mining project.
The visit formed part of efforts to build strong partnerships with traditional authorities and host communities ahead of the implementation of a project expected to generate jobs and drive local economic development.
Briefing the traditional leadership on its plans for the concession, which the company acquired under a 17-year mining lease granted in December 2024,General Manager of Global (Ghana) Ore Industries Limited, Joseph Yankson Forbah Jnr, reiterated that “we consider the engagement with you as crucial to securing community support and ensuring the successful implementation of this project”.
He explained that the Abosso concession has a rich mining history dating back to the 1930s and has passed through several owners before being acquired by Global Ore. Since obtaining the mining lease, the company has been undertaking further exploration and preparatory works ahead of full-scale operations.
He disclosed that the project will involve the establishment of a modern processing facility comprising crushing, milling, classification, leaching, thickening and gold recovery systems. In addition, a tailings storage facility will be constructed to safely manage mining waste while allowing the recovery and reuse of excess water and processing chemicals.
The company, he said plans to commence operations with an initial production capacity of about 300 tonnes per day before expanding progressively to approximately 5,000 tonnes per day through a combination of open-pit and underground mining methods.
He added that creating employment opportunities for people within the catchment communities remains a key priority for the company. To facilitate this, a community committee will be established to oversee local recruitment and help ensure that residents benefit directly from available jobs and business opportunities.

He stated that the company’s corporate social responsibility programme will focus on education, healthcare, water and sanitation, skills development as well as scholarship support. Alternative livelihood programmes in agriculture, livestock production and fish farming are also expected to be introduced to promote sustainable economic development in host communities.
“We want the economic benefits of the mine to be shared among the community, government and individuals through employment, taxes, royalties and community development initiatives,” he said.
However, he said portions of the concession remain occupied by some illegal miners, creating challenges for the company’s exploration and development activities. They view the project as a threat to their source of livelihood.
“Therefore, we are appealing to you, as traditional leaders to help ward off illegal miners on our concession for a cordial relationship and mutual understanding” he added.
Community Relations Coordinator at the Takoradi Office of the Minerals Commission, Daniel K. Eshun, explained that although the company has already engaged the Municipal Chief Executive and Member of Parliament for the area, broader consultations with communities remain necessary to address concerns and facilitate a smooth entry onto the concession.
“We cannot overlook the role of traditional authorities. It is important that they understand the company’s intentions and support the process because community acceptance is critical to the success of any mining project,” Mr. Eshun said.
He revealed that previous stakeholder engagements had encountered resistance and misunderstandings, resulting in disruptions by some youth in the area. As a result, authorities have intensified consultations to ensure that all stakeholders are adequately informed and involved in the process.
Mr. Eshun maintained that the company has met the legal requirements to operate and should not be prevented from carrying out its approved activities. He added that government remains committed to ensuring that mining companies prioritise local content, employment creation and community development.
Queen Mother of Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, Nana Abena Kunadjoa II, urged management of Global Ore to consider employment opportunities for residents when operations begin.
She appealed to the company to release some parcels of land out of their concession to be used for community mining.
She acknowledged that building trust and securing community support will be critical to resolving access challenges and ensuring the successful development of the concession.
