The Northern Mobile Money Agents Association of Ghana (NOMMAAG) has marked its fifth anniversary with a call on government to include mobile money agents in plans for a 24-hour economy, backed by security guarantees. The association also urged the creation of an insurance fund and improved working conditions to safeguard agents’ welfare.
The anniversary, themed ‘Five Years of Empowering and Uniting Agents to Secure Better Conditions of Service in the Financial Ecosystem’, sought to highlight the association’s activities and raise public awareness, particularly among MoMo subscribers.
To commemorate the milestone, NOMMAAG organised a series of activities, including a free health screening for residents of Choggu, football matches against Media XI and Access Bank, a health walk and a donation to inmates at the Tamale Central Prisons. The event was supported by Forms Capital, Access Bank and MTN Ghana.
Chief Inspector Alhassan Lukman Neindoow of the Northern Regional Police, representing the Regional Commander, commended agents for their contributions to Ghana’s mobile money ecosystem. He noted that mobile money lending has increasingly become a target for criminals and called for stronger security measures. He also advised agents and the public to avoid carrying large sums of cash and to report suspicious characters to the police.

MTN Ghana’s Territory Sales Controller, Richard Asamane, lauded NOMMAAG for its advocacy on fair commissions and its efforts in fraud prevention. He reaffirmed MTN’s commitment to enhancing security, promoting financial inclusion and supporting agents over the coming years.
NOMMAAG President Mumuni Abdul Aziz highlighted achievements, including increased cash and airtime commissions for members, collaboration with security agencies to arrest fraudsters and sustained awareness campaigns on safety practices. He said the association aims to build a fraud-free, equitable ecosystem in partnership with MTN, Vodafone and NGOs.
Private legal practitioner, Lawyer Kobina Paul Ampem, reiterated the critical role mobile money agents play in Ghana’s financial structure; while Forms Capital’s Head of Business Development, Ishmael Abbey, pledged support for agents through business financing.
