Unemployed Polytechnic and Technical Universities Graduates are hitting the streets today to protest against the Akufo-Addo’s government for refusing to reconstitute members for the Universities Governing Council for the various converted polytechnics.
According to them, activities have been stagnant in the Universities due to the absence of a new Governing council.
The Governing Council was dissolved when the Akufo-Addo’s government took over power in 2017.
The unemployed graduates will converge at the Obra Spot-Circle in Accra, through to Old Accra Hearts of Oak Park in Accra, and to some principal streets in the metropolis.
Speaking on Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, the Convener of the Association Alfred Brown Kumah indicated that they have not been awarded certificates after completion of school in 2016.
He added that they had gone through the national service but they lack the required certificates to enter the job market.
Mr. Kumah stated that they will present a petition to the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through the Minister of Education Mathew Opuku Prempeh to press home their demands.
‘It’s been one year three months since we completed school, but we have not graduated yet. We are home doing nothing because we don’t have certificates, though there are lots of vacancies but we can’t apply. We are idling at home, it’s sad that we have to demonstrate to be awarded our certificates,’ he complained.
He questioned why the government has been dragging its feet in reconstituting the Universities Governing Council, calling on government to give the executive order for the release of their certificates.
About 8 Polytechnics in the country were converted into Technical Universities by the erstwhile Mahama administration.
Only Wa and Bolgatanga Polytechnics are yet to be converted by the government.
