A Communicator for the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) in the Ashanti region, Kofi Marfo has propounded that Ghanaians only voted in President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo to prevent risking another term of the John Dramani Mahama administration and not necessarily because he was the best for the country.
Speaking to Host Julius Caesar Anadem on the Ultimate Fact File on Kumasi-based Ultimate 106.9FM, Kofi Marfo outlined that the December 7 elections had more riding factors that aimed at getting President Mahama out of office than looking for a right leader for Ghana.
“Ghanaians would have loved to have Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom as President but the truth of the matter was that they just could not risk a second term of President Mahama. And we also know that as much as most free-thinking, well-meaning Ghanaians would want to have Dr Nduom in the seat, we haven’t also been able to saturate the country like the NDC and the NPP so a vote for the PPP probably meant increasing the chances of the NDC retaining power. So whether Ghanaians had the best man or not, the NPP was the most probable to win and so they went in to vote in that direction and it reflected,” he analyzed.
Kofi Marfo pointed out that the most pressing need of the country was not about legislation which Nana Addo has impeccable track record in, but the economy and management of the nation’s resources.
“For those who are conversant with the Pareto law, the twenty percent which will bring about the eighty percent yield, is all coming from how we manage the resources we have on the economic section. Nana Addo as a legal person is par excellent. Probably as a leader in different sectors, he might rank better. His best point for me is principled leadership and a fanatic of the rule of law. But I would have problems for anybody who can tell me today that if you take economics and management of resource, Nana Addo can match Dr Nduom boot for boot“
“So if we advance that argument of he can have people like Dr Bawumiah and others to come on board, in the same vein someone like Dr Nduom could also have other people like lawyers and others to come on board to help with areas where he is not strongest in. But where we really need someone to take a look at and lead this country and which will have a rippling effect in so many areas is our economy.”
He concluded that “President-elect Akufo-Addo was only a better option and not the best for the country’.
