Outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Navrongo Central Mark Owen Woyongo is blaming his defeat during last Wednesday’s polls to the inability of the Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) to fulfill a number of promises.
Mark Woyongo last Wednesday lost his reelection bid to parliament after polling 17,203 representing 43.89% as against a Former Minister of Energy under the erstwhile Kufuor regime Joseph Kofi Addah who secured 20,667 representing 52.72%.
He has since observed that the policies of government gravely affected its electoral fortunes citing the delays in the release of feeding grants coupled with the withdrawal of teacher and nursing trainee allowances as major pointers to his defeat.
The Former Interior Minister told Lantam Papanko on the Ultimate Breakfast show that general economic hardship and the failure by government to fulfill a number of promises also worked against his reelection bid.
“There were some of the policies, national in character that cost me the election. Increased in electricity tariffs and the general economic hardship aside the fact my party executives did not work well to seal the victory”, he added.
The outgoing Navrongo Central legislator however observed that his defeat is an element in politics where one cannot guarantee the outcomes in his/her favour.
“In politics you are either in to lose or win. When you lose you accept it gracefully and move ahead but if it does not go your way, you go licking your wounds”
