Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has extended a helping hand to victims of the flood caused by the spillage of the Akosombodam.
Appiah, in collaboration with Wembley Construction, visited the Volta Region on Wednesday to donate mattresses and other food items to the affected persons.
Ghana is currently facing a mini-crisis following the spillage of the Akosombo Dam, which has destroyed properties and rendered many homeless.
The overflow of the dam meant the Volta River Authority (VRA) had no option but to spill the excess water, resulting in the floods.
The spillage has since had a devastating effect on homes and farmlands, with those along the banks of the River Volta the most affected.
Following Appiah’s kind gesture to the victims, he was praised by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for his support.
The NDC legislator described the former Juventus midfielder as a man who’s not only talented with his feet but also an amazing human being.
“The legendary Stephen ‘Tornado’ Appiah is not only blessed with exceptionally talented feet; more importantly, he is an amazing human being with an awesome heart,” Ablakwa wrote on X (Twitter).
“Thank you El Capitano, Wembley Construction & Nathaniel Attoh. North Tongu will never forget your kindness.”
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service has provided reassurance that no outbreak of disease has occurred in the affected communities.
