Planning a trip can be a hectic chore.
With a trip like a honeymoon, the pressure to make it the “the trip of a lifetime’’ can take the fun out of it.
Once the wedding is over, the next thing to look forward to is often the honeymoon.
There are a lot of places in the world that are famed for being the best honeymoon destinations.
They are characterised by the perfect honeymoon dream; white sand beaches, crystal clear water bodies or serene and secluded locations.
On the African continent, there are a lot of such locations.
Whether it is a honeymoon, an adventure trip, a vacation trip or whatever you fancy, there is more than probably a suitable destination in Africa for it.
Seychelles
Ranked as one of the top honeymoon destinations in the world, Seychelles is a dream tucked away in the Indian ocean.
With over 100 individual islands and islets to visit in the archipelago, there is never a dull moment. It is home to some of the rarest creatures and plants on the earth.
The culture of Seychelles is a mixture of African, European and Asian and provides another layer to the whole exotic experience.
With resorts and lodgings scattered across the islands, the flour-white beaches, crystal clear oceans and colourful plants and corals, travellers are assured of an enjoyable -and extremely picturesque – stay in the country. One island Seychelles is known for is the Prasin Island, known for palm-fringed beaches and bordered by large granite boulders.
North Island is another popular destination among tourists, with Villa North Island perched on the granite boulders at the far end of East Beach, the prime example of privacy and seclusion.
Some activities available are snorkelling, paragliding, hiking, sightseeing and many more. There is also the option of just relaxing on the beaches or in the world-standard accommodation solutions made available to visitors.
Mauritius
Mauritius is an East African island country known for its beaches, reefs and lagoons.
Clean beaches and beautiful sunsets are not all the country offers. The island offers the beach experience alongside a tropical rainforest experience, with its mountainous interior, including Black River Gorges National Park with rainforests, waterfalls and hiking trails. The wildlife on the island is most peculiar to only it, just like neighbouring Seychelles and includes rare wildlife like the flying fox and the rare pink pigeon at the Île aux Aigrettes Nature Reserve.
In the north of the country, the villages of Grand Baie and Flic-en-Flac have world-class beach resorts, luxury hotels and coral diving caves where visitors engage in snorkelling and game fishing. Neighbouring Tamarin Bay is a hotspot for surfers, with huge waves all year round.
The history of the island nation is also available to visitors in the ruins of Dutch fortifications at Vieux Grand Port and the Mahébourg market which has stands serving the island’s distinctive food, with Creole, Chinese, Indian and European influences.
With a tall list of things to do to get you ahead in your romantic life, Mauritius is definitely a place to be on your honeymoon.
Kenya
The East African country of Kenya is blessed with an Indian Ocean coastline, with beautiful beaches and resorts open to visitors. It is known for its savannah, Lakelands, the Great Rift Valley and mountain highlands.
It’s also home to wildlife like lions, elephants, and rhinos. From all across the world, the safaris visit the Maasai Mara Reserve, known for its annual wildebeest migrations, and Amboseli National Park, where they can view Tanzania’s 5,895m Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest in Africa.
The starry nights in Kenya provide a great opportunity to experience romance in a whole new light, and the cost of living is lower than in most countries on the continent, so you won’t have to break your bank account.
South Africa
From the beautiful beaches of Cape Town to the breathtaking greeneries of the Cape Winelands, South Africa packs a heavy punch in the tourism department. One of their most popular honeymoon destinations is Cape Town, and rightly so too. The beaches are spectacular and accommodation solutions available are top tier.
There are a plethora of activities to occupy you, including scuba diving to shark cage diving, wine tasting, horse riding on the beach, hiking, and walking. Other activities you can engage in are dining, running, shopping, bar hopping, boat cruises, helicopter cruises, rented classic cars, abseiling, river rafting, safaris, city tours, whale watching and many more.
The culture experience is phenomenal, and the shopping scene there is very lively, with places like the Greenmarket Square, the V&A Waterfront designer shops and other facilities.
Mozambique
Mozambique’s lengthy coastline is dotted with popular beaches like Tofo beach and offshore marine parks. The Bazaruto Archipelago farther south has reefs which protect rare marine life including dugongs.
There is also the Vilankulos wildlife sanctuary, which is also a hub for surfers, having huge waves all year round. With the cost of living reportedly 36.58 % lower than in the United States, Mozambique offers an enchanting experience for a relatively cheap cost and is an ideal location for a honeymoon.
