Supacem, Sammar Trading address water scarcity at Koforidua Okorase

 The Manufacturers of Supacem ce­ment, CBI Ghana Limited, has hand­ed over a borehole to the Koforidua Okorase community in the Eastern Region as part of their societal cor­porate social responsibility.

The Head of Marketing and Corporate Communication at CBI Ghana Ltd, Adeline Esi Suther­land, explained that the borehole project was undertaken in partner­ship with local distributor, Sammar Trading, to address area’s long water challenge.

She said by providing a reliable source of clean water, Supacem was demonstrating its commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities where it operates.

“As part of Supacem’s commit­ment to corporate social responsi­bility, we partnered with our local distributor who identified a need within the community of Koforid­ua Okorase for sustainable access to clean water.

“This borehole project aligns with our goal to make a positive, long-term impact on the communi­ties where we operate by providing a solution that will improve daily life and health,” she explained.

The project, she said, exem­plified Supacem’s dedication to sustainable development.

“Just as we produce eco-friend­ly LC3 cement to reduce carbon emissions in the construction industry, we also aim to minimise environmental impacts in our CSR projects,” Ms Sutherland added.

On the choice of a borehole, she stated that it was a sustainable solution which harnesses ground­water, and is less prone to contam­ination and easier to maintain over time.

“This makes it a more envi­ronmentally responsible choice compared to alternatives like open wells,” she noted.

The CEO of Sammar Trading and Construction Limited, Alex Owusu Larbi, highlighted the importance of local partnerships in the project’s success.

He explained that as a trusted local partner that understands the unique needs of the Koforidua Okorase community, his outfit was able to provide guidance in ensur­ing that the project is rooted in local expertise, which would help with the long-term maintenance and success of the borehole.

“This has demonstrated very visibly to the people of Koforidua Okorase that Supacem not only seeks to do business within the community, but it has their interest at heart,” he added.

The Chief of Koforidua Oko­rase and Akuapem Ohene, Nana Asare Kumi III, expressed his gratitude, stating, “This borehole project is our way of showing that we care about your health, and your well-being.”
