Algeria will host the inaugural African School Games from July 5-13, 2025.

The historic event, organised in collaboration with the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) and the Inter­national School Sport Federation (ISF), is part of a broader strat­egy to foster youth engagement through sports and education.

The Games will serve as a platform for young athletes from across Africa to demonstrate their skills, while encouraging unity and cultural exchange through healthy competition.

Algeria’s President, Abdelm­adjid Tebboune, expressed his enthusiasm for the Games, stating, “Algeria is honoured to host such a prestigious event, which not only makes young people a focal priority, but is also a vector for peace and sustainable development for Africa.”

The African School Games will serve as a springboard for identify­ing and nurturing young sporting talents who aspire to compete on the international stage.

The initiative is designed to prepare athletes for participation in larger competitions, such as the African Youth Games scheduled for December 2025 in Luanda, Angola, and the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, Senegal.

The groundwork for hosting the African School Games was laid with the signing of a Memoran­dum of Understanding between ANOCA and ISF on July 31, 2024, during the Paris Olympic Games.

This historic agreement aims to build the capacities of young Africans through a blend of sports and academic programmes.

ANOCA President, Mustapha Berraf, highlighted the significance of the partnership, saying, “Sport is a powerful tool not only for identifying future champions but also for inculcating in our young people values such as respect, teamwork, and discipline. Thanks to this agreement, we are opening a new era for school sport in Africa.”

The African School Games aim to establish school sports as a cornerstone of youth development in Africa.

As the host country, Algeria has pledged to provide state-of-the-art facilities, modern equipment, and technical expertise to ensure the success of the event.

The investment in infrastructure and resources will not only benefit the School Games but will also serve future international competi­tions, creating a legacy for African sports.

The Algerian government, in partnership with ANOCA, has devised a comprehensive plan to ensure the smooth organisation of the Games.

Moreover, the Games will con­tribute to the training and devel­opment of teachers and coaches, equipping them with new method­ologies and tools to inspire a new generation of sports enthusiasts. –Insidethegames.biz
