Ghana’s lone torchbearer in the CAF inter-club competitions, Dreams FC, will chase a significant milestone in the club’s history by reaching the finals of the on-going Confederations Cup as they face Egyptian giants, Zamalek, in the second leg semi-final game at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
The ‘Still Believe’ boys are in the reckoning to become the third Ghanaian side to play in the competition’s final, following Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko during the first edition in 2004.
Dreams FC held Zamalek to goalless draw game in the first leg and wield the advantage now.
Coming out of Egypt unharmed has brought hope to fans over Dreams FC’s ability to scale the Zamalek hurdle and make it to their first continental final in the club’s history.
Head Coach Abdul-Karim Zito Kabutey says Dreams FC would go all out on Sunday for victory.
“We had a strategy for the first leg which we executed to the latter; that is behind us now. We’ll come with a different plan for the second leg.”
For the Egyptian White Knights, coached by Jose Gomes, the idea of a possible qualification in Kumasi is high on the agenda.
In his view, the absence of their forward, Ahmed Mostafa Mohamed Sayed, cost them in the first game and is confident he would make a lot of difference in Sunday’s game.
Coach Gomes will bank his hopes on veteran forwards, Shikabala, Mostafa Shalaby and Ibrahima Ndaye – the three players’ that struggled to find the net in the first leg despite the many chances they had.
Similarly, Coach Zito is also expected to plot around experienced striker, John Antwi, who have tasted such big match atmosphere with Pyramids FC in the 2019/20 season, and teammate Abdul Aziz Issah.
