Construction work on the abandoned La General Hospital project will begin in November this year, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, Solomon Kotey Nikoi, has assured.
“The regional minister assured me in the presence of other Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in Accra at a meeting and repeated the assurance when he came to my house in La,” he said.
The MCE said this when he addressed a town hall meeting held at La in Accra last Wednesday to provide update on events that have transpired in the third quarter of the year.
Held on the theme ‘The role of stakeholders’ the meeting was also meant to seek stakeholders’ support in the run-up to the preparation and approval of the 2024 planning and budgeting for the ensuing year.
Mr Nikoi said, as a native of La, the La General Hospital project was a priority to him and thus, he would use his good office to ensure the hospital was constructed to promote healthcare delivery in the municipality.
Mr Nikoi explained that the project was a central government initiative and therefore the assembly had very little control over.
The MCE urged the people of La to exercise patience and be hopeful to see what happens after November and then decide the way forward.
“I will join residents to plan the way forward if the promise of commencement does not materialise by November,” he stated.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for La Dadekotopon Constituency, Rita Naa Odorley Sowah, said November was very close and everyone was eagerly waiting for the commencement of the project.
Ms Sowah entreated the residents of La to give their maximum support to the project.
She said the hospital, when completed, would be of immense benefit to the municipality and go a long way to improve healthcare services.
“I am still going to push to ensure the project comes to fruition and also completed,” she pledged.
Shikitele Nii Adjei Koofeh VI in his remarks said the promise by the regional minister must be fulfilled without any hindrance.
Nii Koofeh VI stressed that the traditional leaders at La were excited by the promise of the government for the commencement of the project.
“We as traditional leaders and the people of La would not be happy if the regional minister’s proposed date for the commencement of work on the abandoned La General Hospital project fails,” he said.
