Man gets 3 years for stealing electric cables

The Adentan Circuit Court has sentenced a 25-year-old labourer, to three years imprisonment in hard labour, for stealing electrical cables, worth GH¢73,000.

Daniel Atiah stole the cables belonging to Quality Properties Real Estate, at East Legon Hills, Accra.

He was convicted on his own plea of guilty on the charges of causing unlawful damage, unlaw­ful entry and stealing.

 Atiah prayed the court to forgive him, pleading, “I will never repeat the act again,” but the court presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah convicted him (Atiah) on his plea.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo said the com­plainant, Mr Philip Konetey, was the Managing Director of Quality Properties Real Estate.

The prosecution said the com­pany had buildings at East Legon Hills and accused was a resident of Nanakrom.

Chief Insp Lanyo said the complainant instructed his work­er, Isaac Aboagye, a witness in the case, to go for some tiles from one of the company’s building at East Legon Hills, where building materials were kept.

The prosecution said when Aboagye arrived at the premises of the company, and was about to open the door, Atiah sudden­ly emerged from the building through a window with quantities of stolen electrical cables.

Chief Insp Lanyo said Atiah sensing danger took to his heels, but he was chased and arrested by Aboagye and Hayford Bempong, also a witness, and they handed over convict to the police.

The court heard that investiga­tions revealed that Atiah unlawful­ly entered the company’s building, destroyed the burglar proof of a window and stole the electrical cables. —GNA
