Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Annoh-Dompreh, has called on members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to end internal differences and unite behind the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking at a funeral ceremony at Adoagyiri, Annoh-Dompreh said the NPP’s immediate priority must be to consolidate its structures, strengthen party unity and prepare for the next electoral contest.
He argued that with the party having completed the selection of its flagbearer and several officers, members must now redirect their energies from internal contests towards the broader objective of returning the NPP to power.
According to the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP, the NPP has already made significant progress in putting its leadership structure in place, with the remaining national-level electoral process expected to be completed with the election of national officers.
He, therefore, urged all factions and supporters to close ranks and work together, stressing that unity and strong organisation would be essential to the party’s prospects in 2028.
Annoh-Dompreh Attacks NDC Over Campaign Promises
Hon. Annoh-Dompreh also used the occasion to launch a strong political attack on the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), accusing the party of failing to fulfil promises made to Ghanaians while in opposition.
He alleged that the NDC made promises that created high expectations among voters before the 2024 general elections but had struggled to deliver on some of those commitments after assuming office. The Minority Chief Whip said the NPP must therefore remain focused on exposing what it considers failures of the current administration while presenting its own alternative policies to the electorate.
“The NDC has deceived Ghanaians,” Annoh-Dompreh told the gathering, according to the account of his remarks, arguing that the government should be judged by the promises it made before taking power.
He further predicted that Ghanaians would have the opportunity to express their dissatisfaction through the ballot box in 2028, declaring that the NDC could face a “red card” from voters if it fails to meet expectations.
The Flagbearer Has Been Chosen,Now We Must Unite
The MP’s appeal for unity comes as the NPP moves into a new phase following its internal presidential contest. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 election, giving the party a defined presidential candidate around whom its campaign structure can be built.
Annoh-Dompreh said the completion of the flagbearer process should end internal competition and pave the way for collective mobilisation.
He urged those who supported other aspirants during the internal contest to now rally behind Dr. Bawumia and contribute to the party’s efforts to regain power.
He stressed that the NPP cannot afford to remain divided if it wants to defeat the NDC in 2028, insisting that “unity, organisation and commitment” must become the central pillars of the party’s preparations.
The call echoes wider appeals within the NPP for reconciliation and organisational rebuilding following its internal contests. Recent reports have similarly highlighted unity as a critical factor in the party’s attempt to mount a successful comeback in 2028.
NPP Must Reconnect With Ghanaians
Annoh-Dompreh also urged NPP members to reconnect with voters at the grassroots and listen to the concerns of ordinary Ghanaians. He said the party’s return to government would not be achieved merely through political rhetoric but would require sustained engagement, effective organisation and a clear policy alternative.
He called on party supporters to have confidence in the NPP and its leadership, arguing that the party has the experience and capacity to provide what he described as a better direction for the country.
His comments come at a time when the NPP is increasingly positioning Dr. Bawumia as the face of its 2028 campaign and seeking to turn the party’s internal reorganisation into a broader electoral mobilisation exercise.
