The Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has organised a capacity-building programme to strengthen journalists’ competencies in environmental reporting and personal safety.
The training programme, which coincided with the World Environment Day was under the theme: “Inspired by Nature; For Climate; For Our Future” was funded by Reporters Without Borders (RSF Germany).

The facilitators included Richard Boadi-Soadwa, Ashanti Regional Deputy Director, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Head of Amansie Area; Dr. Jones Opoku-Ware, Criminologist, KNUST and Erastus Asare Donkor, Environmental Journalist.
The participants also planted trees to mark the day.
The programme, which sought to train and equip young journalists with the skills to raise awareness about global warming, deforestation and water/air pollution, and also to promote sustainable development and encourage everyday behaviour changes to better protect the environment.
Addressing the gathering, the Regional Chairman, Kofi Adu Domfeh expressed his appreciation to Reporters Without Borders (RSF Germany) for putting the program together, noting that the training is a call for each and every one to begin to have self-introspection on environmental stewardship, especially towards sustainable growth.
He hoped that the programme will empower journalists to be advocates of good environment and urged journalists to look at individual actions in promoting climate action, including greening micro-environments and most essentially, how journalists, at their personal level can work safely.
