The Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA)Obuasi Mine, Ing. Dr. Samuel Boakye Pobee, has stated that over the years, management has made deliberate strides to expand female participation across technical and operational roles in engineering, geology, processing and underground operations of the mine.
“These are areas historically defined by inbalance. That inbalance is changing,” he noted.

He pointed out that management has strengthened recruitment pipelines for female graduates, introduced leadership visibility for women across departments and embedded inclusive accountability within management structures.
Ing. Boakye Pobee made the disclosure at the Awards Night and Dinner to climax activities marking this year’s International Women’s Day in Obuasi.
The programme brought together various women in key positions in Adansi for various awards.
The Managing Director stated that in 2024 the Company commissioned the AGA Baby Care Centre, which provides a secure and dignified space for working parents, particularly nursing mothers and said the facility had improved retention, reduced career interruption, sense of belonging and reinforced a simple principle that professional growth should not conflict with parenthood.
He pointed out that the time has come to give women the opportunity to compete with the men in all fronts.”I am particularly excited about recipients of wards who represent excellence across public service, supply chain, entrepreneurship, academia and long-serving commitment within our workforce,” the Managing Director added.
The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, Roselove Appiah Kannin, underscored the fact that “when we invest in women, show dedication and support, we all gain as a community, as a Municipality and as a nation.”
She noted that through partnership with AGA positive things have taken place in Obuasi and mentioned health initiatives and economic empowerment programmes and urged them to continue to support in that direction for the benefit of the people.
“As we embrace the theme “Give to Gain”, let us commit to advancing women together. This means providing access to education and skills training, supporting women-led businesses and creating safe spaces where women’s contributions are valued and amplified,” she added.
In attendance were the Adansihemaa, Nana Amonimaa Dede II, Edubiasehemaa Nana Akua Dwum II, Akrokerrihemaa -Nana Serwaa Bruwaa II and Dompoasehemaa – Nana Afrifaa Toku Dum III.
