The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated processes to expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng from the party following comments he made during a television interview in which he described the party as “fake” and claimed he no longer considers himself an NPP member.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party said it had taken due notice of remarks made by the former Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, 2026.

According to the statement, Prof. Frimpong Boateng made what the party described as disparaging remarks about the NPP and further alleged that the party’s 2023 presidential primary was rigged in favour of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
The NPP categorically rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless and unsubstantiated. The party stressed that the 2023 presidential primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent and credible manner, and that the process had been widely accepted by all candidates who participated, as well as by party members.
“The said primary faithfully reflected the will of party delegates,” the statement said.
The party further described the conduct and utterances of Prof. Frimpong Boateng as “highly reprehensible” and inimical to the values, unity and integrity of the NPP.
“As a result, the party has invoked the relevant provisions of its constitution to commence the necessary processes to expel him from the party, strictly in accordance with due process,” the statement added.
Prof. Frimpong Boateng is a founding member of the NPP and a former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation. He also chaired the now-defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM).
