Registrar General wins case against journalist at NMC

The National Media Commission (NMC) has directed an investigative journalist and Editor of the Awake newspaper, Emmanuel Efo Kosi Senyo to retract and apologise to the Registrar General, Jemima Oware following his publication of a story which allegedly cited the Registrar General of colluding in the allocation of dividends to some beneficiaries of a Will.

The commission, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh ruled that the series of publications by the journalist have needlessly and baselessly brought the office of the Registrar General into disrepute.

As such, he is expected to give the retraction and apology the same prominence as the offending articles.

Again, that Mr. Kosi Senyo should remove the photograph of the Registrar General from the website and any other social media platform.

The ruling followed a complaint at the NMC by the Registrar General’s Department in a case where the outfit was wrongly accused by some beneficiaries of the proceeds from the sale of a property; Toku House belonging to Toku Company.

The beneficiaries had challenged at the Supreme Court, their entitlements in a Will prepared by the owner of the property, George Kwaku Asiamah who is deceased.

Though the journalist in question had written to the Registrar General’s Department to request for her side of the story, he was not given any response which the NMC deems as fair.

However, the media regulating body maintains that the failure by Mr. Senyo to substantiate the claims leveled against the Registrar General, informed the basis for the ruling. Read Full Story
