Asante Kotoko coach Eric Tinkler has described the Ghana Premier League as a “very, very difficult league” as he prepares his team for a challenging trip to FC Samartex 1996.

Kotoko face Samartex at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena with both sides enjoying unbeaten starts to the campaign.

Samartex have won their opening two matches, while Kotoko secured a 2-1 victory over Heart of Lions last weekend to continue their positive beginning under Tinkler.

The Kotoko coach believes the competitive nature of the league means small margins can determine results and has challenged his players to improve consistently.

“It's a difficult league. Very, very difficult league. You know, there are small margins to victory, you know, and we've got to make sure that those small margins we are better than others,” he said.

Tinkler wants his players to make gradual improvements both during training and matches as they seek to compete at the highest level.

“We need to be looking to improve 1% every single day in training. We need to improve 1% every time we go out on that field and play a league match,” he added.

The South African also highlighted the challenges presented by long journeys and difficult pitches across the domestic league.

However, he does not want his squad distracted by those factors.

“We need to focus on ourselves as a team, as a collective, and ensure that we always give our best,” Tinkler said.

Kotoko will hope that mentality helps them end their poor away run against an in-form Samartex side.
