The second edition of the MTN Elite U-19 Championship officially got underway on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, with a colourful opening ceremony at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.
The ceremony marked the start of an 11-day competition bringing together some of Ghana’s most promising young footballers, with the players representing their respective regions.
The ceremonial kick-off was led by Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, Chairman of the Planning Committee and Member of Parliament for Ketu North. He was joined by GFA Executive Council member Samuel Aboabire and National Juvenile Committee Chairman Joe Salam Abubakar.
Other officials present included Organising Committee Vice-Chairman Enoch Agyare Addo and committee members Samuel Owusu Amoah and Michael Fiaduse.
The opening fixture saw Volta Region face Ashanti Region in Group A.
Defending champions Eastern Region also began their title defence against Upper West Region, while Central Region faced Brong Ahafo Region in Group B. Upper East Region completed the opening day’s fixtures against Northern Region.
The championship, sponsored by MTN Ghana, forms part of the GFA’s “Power to the Youth” initiative, providing young players with a platform to develop, gain competitive experience and attract the attention of scouts and national-team selectors.
