Ghana centre-forward Nathaniel Opoku has joined Northampton from Leicester, signing a contract that runs until 30 June 2029.
The 25-year-old completed the move on 21 August 2026 as he switches from Leicester’s League One set-up to Northampton’s League Two squad. No transfer fee has been disclosed.
Opoku arrives after spending the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Newport County. He returned to Leicester at the end of that spell before making his next move, bringing an end to his time with the club.
The Accra-born striker initially joined Leicester from Syracuse in January 2023. He then moved to Belgian side OH Leuven on loan later that month, returning to Leicester at the end of the 2023-24 season.
A further loan move followed in September 2025, when Opoku joined Newport County. He subsequently went back to Leicester on 31 May 2026 before completing his transfer to Northampton.
Opoku began his senior career in the United States with Ventura County, joining the club on loan from the LW Blue Raiders in May 2022. He later moved to the Blue Raiders on a free transfer in August of that year, before switching to Syracuse at the start of 2023.
His move to Northampton comes at the beginning of the 2026-27 campaign. He has yet to make an appearance in either League Two or the EFL Cup for his new club, with the transfer taking place on 21 August.
The striker is listed at 1.83m and has represented Ghana at international level through his nationality, although no international appearance record is included with the move. His recorded market value is €150,000.
Northampton have now secured Opoku’s services on a deal lasting three seasons beyond the current campaign. The Ghanaian forward is contracted to the club through June 2029.
