Former TP Mazembe midfielder Daniel Nii Adjei believes determination and tactical execution will be decisive when Medeama SC face the Congolese giants in the first preliminary round of the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
The Ghanaian champions were handed a difficult assignment in Thursday’s draw in Cairo, with Medeama set to host Mazembe in the first leg before travelling to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the return fixture.
Despite Mazembe’s continental pedigree, Nii Adjei believes the tie is evenly poised and neither side can afford to underestimate the other.
The Heart of Lions assistant coach says the team that shows greater determination and follows its tactical plan effectively will ultimately progress to the second preliminary round.
Speaking in an interview with Max FM, Nii Adjei said the outcome would depend largely on how well each side executes its approach over the two legs.
"Football is some way. The most determined team will go through to the second preliminary round. The team that will execute their game plan well will emerge victorious."
Medeama will be seeking to make home advantage count when the first leg is played at the TNA Stadium between September 4 and 6.
The return fixture in Kinshasa will follow between September 11 and 13, with the aggregate winner advancing to the second preliminary round.
If Medeama progress, they will face either Club Africain or Djoliba AC.
The Ghanaian champions qualified for the competition after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title.
