Former Ghana international Albert Adomah has cautioned the Black Stars to brace themselves for a challenging group at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while expressing confidence that the team can progress to the knockout stage.
Ghana, four-time African champions and making their fifth appearance at the global tournament, have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
Speaking to 3Sports, the former Aston Villa forward acknowledged the difficulty of the assignment but urged the team to approach it with belief rather than fear.
“It will be a difficult group,” he said. “We’ve got top teams in England and Croatia. On paper, some people might look at Panama and think they are the easiest side, but football does not work like that.”
Adomah warned against any complacency, stressing that so-called underdogs often rise to the occasion in major tournaments.
“As players, the team you think you should beat easily is often the one that produces its best performance against you. That is why Ghana must be very cautious and respect every opponent,” he cautioned.
He further noted that Ghana’s chances of advancing will hinge on more than just talent, highlighting preparation, discipline and mental strength as key factors.
“Ghana have a very good chance of progressing. We have talented players and plenty of options available. But it will come down to how the players show up, both mentally and physically,” Adomah added.
Despite the tough draw, Adomah remains optimistic, insisting that belief could be decisive on football’s biggest stage.
"If the players believe they are the best team on the pitch, they can beat anybody. This is the World Cup. Once the tournament begins, rankings and seedings mean very little. Anyone can beat anyone,” he concluded.
Ghana will begin their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
