Asante Kotoko will aim to strengthen their position in the Ghana Premier League when they face Karela United at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale on Sunday.
Kotoko, currently fourth on the table, head into the match under pressure after dropping points at home for the second time in recent weeks. Interim coach Prince Yaw Owusu will be eager to restore confidence among supporters as the race for the top four intensifies.
The Porcupine Warriors were held to a draw by Vision FC in their most recent outing, a result that slowed their push up the standings. After 24 matches, Kotoko have recorded 10 wins, nine draws and five defeats, scoring 30 goals while conceding 15.
Karela United, who sit seventh with 35 points, arrive in Tamale in encouraging form. The side extended their unbeaten run to four matches following a goalless draw against Bechem United last weekend.
Defensive discipline has been key to their recent performances, with Karela keeping four consecutive clean sheets. This improvement at the back has helped them remain competitive in the battle for the top half of the table.
The two sides have met six times since October 2023, producing closely contested encounters. Kotoko have won three of those matches, while Karela have claimed two victories and one game ended in a draw.
Their most recent meeting came in November 2025 when Kotoko secured a 4-2 home victory. Across those six matches, Kotoko have scored seven goals compared to Karela’s six.
With both teams still pushing for a strong finish to the season, Sunday’s clash in Tamale is expected to be another competitive contest.
