Asante Kotoko have confirmed that Karim Zito has resigned from his position as head coach with immediate effect, with the club set to announce its new technical direction in due course.
In a statement released through the club’s official channels, Asante Kotoko said management had accepted Zito’s resignation and expressed appreciation for his services, while wishing him well in his future endeavours.
Zito’s departure follows a period of mounting pressure after Kotoko’s recent struggles, including their exit from the MTN FA Cup against Aduana FC and inconsistent league form. The situation had sparked widespread speculation about his future, which intensified over the past week.
The coach was appointed in July 2025 after an impressive interim spell that culminated in FA Cup success and qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup. However, the current season has proved more challenging, with the team failing to maintain consistency across competitions. They are eight points off the top of the league.
By stepping down, Karim Zito brings his tenure to an early end, allowing the club to move swiftly in restructuring its technical setup. Kotoko are expected to outline interim arrangements and longer-term plans as they prepare for upcoming domestic fixtures.
