Nigeria cruised past Uganda with a dominant 3-1 victory on Tuesday afternoon to finish top of Group C at the end of the three group games at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The triumph over the Cranes meant the Super Eagles have won all three group stage matches, cementing their status as one of the favourites to clinch this edition of the AFCON.
In the match against Uganda, Nigeria broke the deadlock after 28 minutes of play in the first half. A Fisayo Dele-Bashiru cut-back cross was put at the back of the net by striker Paul Onuachu, who had wasted a glorious opportunity just a minute earlier.
With a narrow lead at the break, the Super Eagles continued to probe after the recess while keeping their shape and playing some delightful football.
In the 62nd minute, the patience of the team paid off when Raphael Onyedika netted a second goal for Nigeria after he was assisted by Samuel Chukwueze.
Five minutes later, Onyedika equalised again after drilling a shot into the bottom right corner to not only complete a brace for himself but also make it 3-0 for his side.
Although Uganda pulled one back through Rogers Mato in the 75th minute, it was not enough to inspire a comeback, forcing the Cranes to succumb to a 3-1 loss at full-time.
The result while sending Nigeria through to the Round 16 stage as winners of Group C, sends Uganda home at the end of the group stage of AFCON 2025.
