Zambia forward Patson Daka endured a frightening moment after scoring a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser against Mali at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), landing awkwardly on his neck while attempting a backflip celebration.
Daka had just powered home a header deep into added time to secure a vital 1-1 draw for the Chipolopolo when he attempted an acrobatic celebration that went wrong. The Leicester City striker appeared to lose his balance mid-air and came down heavily on his neck, immediately remaining on the ground as medical staff rushed to his aid.
The incident briefly silenced the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca, with concern visible among teammates and opponents alike. After a few tense moments, Daka was able to get back on his feet, much to the relief of the Zambian bench and supporters, before continuing his celebration.
