2024 WAFCON: Ghana under pressure to beat Mali in second game after defeat to South Africa
The Black Queens of Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to South Africa in their opening match at the 2024 CAF Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).The team is now under pressure to secure victory in their next game against Mali in Group C.That crucial encounter will be played on Friday, July 11.The Black Queens of Ghana went into their opening group game against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa on Monday looking to cause an upset.However, the early impressive performance of the Queens which saw them dominating possession was not enough.The South Africans came in strong after the first 20 minutes and led by two goals at halftime.The defending champions equalized through a penalty kick converted by Linda Motlhalo in the 28th minute to take the lead.Later in the 34th minute South Africa scored a second thanks to a smart finish from veteran attacker Jermaine Seoposenwe.The defeat is a setback for the Black Queens and requires an immediate response in their next match against Mali on Friday.
