Juaso (Ash), Jan. 1, GNA - The Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante-Akim South, Mr. Kwaku Asante-Boateng, has organised a Christmas gala competition for the communities across the Municipality.
According to him, the initiative was part of efforts to mobilise the youth in the area and co-opt them into ‘the victory 2020 agenda’, geared at ensuring victory for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in next year’s presidential and parliamentary polls.
The Municipality was divided into 10 zones for the pre-tournament qualifiers after which 24 communities converged at Juaso, the Municipal capital for the finals.
Each community prior to the competition was given a set of jersey, one football and some money, depending on the distance to the capital.
Asankare emerged the overall winner after beating Morso on penalties and took home the coveted trophy, 200 bags of cement, six packets of roofing sheets, two sets of jerseys, three footballs and a cash of GH¢3,000.00.
Morso and Dampong who were the first and second runner-ups respectively also walked away with a total of GH¢3,000.00, 150 bags of cement, six packets of roofing sheets, two sets of jerseys and three footballs.
The competition was full of excitement and fanfare as people from all the participating communities trooped to the Juaso Senior High School, where it was held to support their teams.
Also in attendance were some national and regional executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), chiefs and queenmothers of some communities and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Alexander Frimpong.
Mr Asante-Boateng said the initiative apart from mobilising the youth in the Municipality for a resounding victory for the NPP in 2020 was also to foster unity among the various communities as one people.
He was particularly happy about the talents that were exhibited during the competition and charged them to work hard since they had the potentials to become great footballers in the near future.
He advised the youth to be moderate when having fun during the yuletide, saying that, their contribution to national development was crucial.
