Thousands welcome New Year in churches in Ketu South

Aflao (V/R), Jan. 01, GNA - Thousands of people in the Ketu South Municipality Tuesday night, stormed churches to welcome the New Year.

As early as 1900 hours, some church auditoriums were jam packed with congregants ready to say goodbye to 2019 and welcome the New Year.

At about 1930 hours when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Global Evangelical Church (GEC) Victory Chapel, Aflao, it witnessed a charged atmosphere with congregants dancing to what seemed to be never-to-end “agbadza” (a popular traditional) in anticipation of the New Year.

Reverend Daniel Kofi Manyo, the Parish Pastor in a sermon titled, “The Case is Finished”, settled on the story of Joseph in the Bible to assure the congregation that God had made them go through the trials of the previous years for their own good and that, it was time for them to “sing a new song” in 2020.

He however admonished the congregants to remain focused on God by worshipping him in truth, discover God’s purpose for their lives, hold on to their dreams, pay the price, live a purposeful life and be humble for God to move into their situations.

A tour to other parts of Aflao in the wee hours of the New Year revealed little activities as people only moved in groups heading home from the crossover services.

Madam Mercy Forson, a seamstress who sat in her tailoring shop at 1259 hours, told the GNA that she had just closed from church but had to work on a client’s dress before going home to catch some sleep and be ready for morning mass at 0630 hours.

At the border, a handful of people crossed from both sides after visiting churches across the border, while personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at post, screened the few buses transporting goods and people for entry.
