Following an extensive search operation, the victim’s body was discovered in the Ahafo Mine’s mining area and recovered on late Friday, 26 July, 2019.
This was contained in a media release signed and issued by Mr. Kwame Agbeko Azumah, Director, Communications and External Relations of the Company and copied the Ghana News Agency.
According to the release, the Company worked closely with the Police and other stakeholders to locate the missing security contractor, adding that, four other security guards were injured during the confrontation and “received medical treatment”.
“Newmont Goldcorp Ghana and our nearby communities are grieving in the wake of this tragic loss of life,” the release quoted Kwame Addo-Kufuor, Acting Regional Senior Vice President of Newmont Goldcorp’s Africa Operations.
The release stated the Company was supporting its security provider in its efforts to assist the injured as well as the family of the deceased.
“We are assisting the Police to conduct thorough investigations to understand the circumstances that led to the disappearance and death of the contractor”, it assured and added that the Company’s operations were continuing as normal.
The release expressed the Company’s continuous commitment to working with other stakeholders to ensure the safety of the people working at its operations and concluded that it would be providing updates as appropriate.
