Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/R), July 29, GNA - The Sunyani Diocesan Methodist Youth Fellowship (MYF) has commended government for introducing the Free Senior High School (FSHS) education and the Nation Builders Corps (NaBCo) Programmes, describing them as nation-building steps in the right direction.
According to the Fellowship, the FSHS has not only provided opportunity for a host of Junior High School graduates, who could not have acquired secondary education because of poor parental backgrounds but has also guaranteed the nation with a mass of literate population in the immediate future and beyond for its holistic development.
Mr. Francis Duah, the Chairman of the Fellowship gave the commendation when he spoke at the opening of the 15th Biennial Delegates Conference, 2019, at Dormaa-Ahenkro, in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region.
Under the theme "Intensifying Our Teaching Ministry for Disciple Making: The Young Person in Focus", the Conference attracted a total of 660 delegates drawn from 16 Circuits in the Bono and Ahafo Regions.
They comprised Sunyani, Berekum, Dormaa-Ahenkro, Wamfie, Abesim, Chiraa, Jinijini, Japekrom, Nkrakwanta, Ahenbronoso, Wamanafo, Seikwa and Nkwabeng, all in Bono region, and Bechem, Techimantia and Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Ahafo region.
He said the NaBCo initiative, aimed at strengthening and improving "public service delivery in health, education, agriculture, technology, governance and drive revenue mobilisation and collection" was actually helping to address the challenge of graduate unemployment.
Mr. Duah appealed to government to endeavour to tackle the issue of delays in the payment of allowances for the NaBCo recruits to motivate them to work zealously for the realisation of the objectives of the programme and also increase national production output.
He however, advised the beneficiaries of the NaBCo Programme to take advantage of the initiative to work hard with the supreme interest of the nation in mind because it had offered them a great opportunity to acquire the necessary professional competency and work experiences.
Mr. Duah expressed optimism that the free SHS would help to develop the requisite quality human resource base for the development agenda of the country, if only it would be sustained.
Reverend Samuel Boakye Kusi-Appiah, the Diocesan Youth Organiser encouraged members to enroll in the Diocesan Entrepreneurship and Skill Development Programme aimed at equipping young people in the Diocese with diverse skills to establish their own businesses.
