Presbyterian University, Ghana graduates 618

The Presbyterian University, Ghana, has conferred degrees in various disciplines to a total of 618 students at its 18th congregation held at Kwahu-Abetifi.

The graduands were students from the faculties of Business, Science and Technology, Law, Development Studies, Education, Medical Sciences and Nursing and Midwifery which presented the largest number of graduands at the ceremony.

One hundred and ten were awarded First Class, 305 received second class upper, 192 Second Class Lower while 11 graduated with Third Class.

Professor John Ofosu Anim, Vice-Chancellor of the University, described their achievements as an exemplified academic distinction and a steadfast commitment to excellence defining a Presbyterian university graduate.

He announced that 360 out of the 618 graduands were females and described it as a representation of power of women in the academic spaces and a positive mood in bridging the gender gap.

“The University remains committed to creating an inclusive environment that encourages and empowers women to pursue higher education and leadership roles to propel national development,” he added.

The Vice-Chancellor reminded the graduands that they had been equipped with the requisite knowledge and resilience to contribute to nation building and as ambassadors of the Presbyterian University and its famous discipline they must show the difference.

As Ghana’s election approached, Professor Ofosu Anim urged the graduands as members of the academic community and as citizens, to promote peace before, during, and after the elections.

Professor Emmanuel Ashie Kotei, Chairman of Council of the PUG also called on all stakeholders, political leaders and citizens to maintain peace and unity throughout the process.

He appealed to the government through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) to support public universities to expand infrastructure especially laboratories, libraries and research centers to foster a better learning environment and high-level research output.

Whiles commending the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for its unwavering support to the University of the years, he made a renewed appeal for a support in construction of additional hostels and facilities particularly on the Asante-Akyem campus.
