A shocking incident of violence has rocked the Asuoso Senior High School in Offinso, where a student brutally stabbed a teacher in the left eye, leaving him permanently blind.
The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has condemned the heinous act and given the Ghana Education Service and Police Service a three-day ultimatum to prosecute the perpetrator.
According to Thomas Musah Tanko, General Secretary of GNAT, the incident occurred on November 8, when the teacher, whose name has not been disclosed, asked a student who was loitering outside the classroom to enter. In a fit of rage, the student stabbed the teacher in the left eye, causing irreparable damage.
The teacher has since lost his left eye, and the incident has sent shockwaves through the educational community.
GNAT has expressed outrage and disappointment at the lack of action from the Ghana Education Service and Police Service, despite the severity of the incident.
“We are appalled by the lack of urgency and action from the authorities,” Tanko said in an exclusive interview with 3news’ Daniel Opoku.
“The teacher has lost his eye, and his life will never be the same.
We demand justice and swift action to ensure that the perpetrator is held accountable.”
GNAT has threatened to withdraw its services from next week if the authorities fail to act swiftly.
The association has also called for increased security measures to be put in place to protect teachers and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
