Ghana Water Limited (GWL) has announced that it will temporarily shut down one of its plants in Kpong that serves the Krobo-Somanya area from February 14 to 15, 2024.
The shutdown is necessary to facilitate the installation of a new interconnection pipeline and foot valves at the Kpong Water Treatment Plant (WTP).
The installation of the new interconnection pipeline is expected to increase the capacity of the plant by approximately 3 million gallons per day (mgd), which is equivalent to 13,600m3.
This upgrade aims to improve the water supply to the affected communities and meet the growing demand for clean water.
In a statement released on February 9, 2024, GWL apologized to the public for any inconvenience caused by the shutdown. They advised essential service providers, especially hospitals and schools in the area, to ensure they have adequate water storage for the duration of the shutdown.
GWL assured the public that their team of engineers would work diligently to complete the installation within the estimated timeframe and restore water supply to the affected communities as soon as possible.
The company also urged consumers to inform their community leaders, assemblymen, and unit committee members in case of any emergencies during this period.
To alleviate the impact of the shutdown, alternative arrangements have been made.
However, it is crucial for the public to cooperate and make necessary preparations to minimize disruptions during the temporary closure of the water treatment plant.
