Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), has allegedly been arrested by the Special Prosecutor on charges of alleged distribution of money to delegates prior to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary primaries.
The arrest came after a report was filed by Kwame Anyimadu Antwi, Nkansah’s main rival for the Asante Akim Central parliamentary seat.
Felix Amakye, the NPP’s Asante Akim Central constituency secretary, disclosed this during an interview on Citi FM.
It was stated that Anyimadu Antwi had brought the matter to the attention of the Special Prosecutor, leading to Nkansah’s arrest.
Following his arrest, Nkansah was taken into custody and subsequently transported to his office in Accra to aid in the ongoing investigations.
It is pertinent to note that Nkansah is actively challenging Antwi, the incumbent, for the Asante Akim Central parliamentary seat.
This situation adds an intriguing layer to the proceedings, heightening both the tensions and interests surrounding the primaries.
The NPP has scheduled the parliamentary primaries for constituencies with incumbent MPs on January 27, 2024.
This arrest and the allegations against Ofosu Nkansah are likely to have an impact on the election dynamics in the Asante Akim Central constituency.
As news of the arrest spreads, party members and the public are closely watching the development in this case. The NPP, known for its strong stance against corruption, will undoubtedly ensure a thorough investigation and due process.
The outcome could significantly influence the political landscape in the constituency and potentially reshape the race for the parliamentary seat.
The NPP, as a party, has consistently emphasized the importance of internal integrity and fair practices among its members.
