Residents of the Sefwi-Wiawso constituency in the Western North Region on Wednesday, July 24, staged a protest against Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, demanding an apology for ejecting their Member of Parliament, Dr Kwaku Afriyie, from the House.
The controversy began when Speaker Bagbin deemed some comments by Dr Afriyie as rude and asked him to leave the Chamber.
Although Majority Chief Whip Frank Annor-Dompreh apologised on Dr Afriyie’s behalf, the latter claimed he didn’t authorise the apology, maintaining he did nothing wrong.
In response, a group of residents, believed to be New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathisers, demonstrated against Speaker Bagbin, describing his actions as unfortunate and disrespectful to their MP and the people of Sefwi-Wiawso.
They have demanded an unconditional apology within a week, threatening to take further action if their demands are not met.
