A new condom brand has been launched in Accra.
Produced by Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO), Ebony Condoms were launched at the Fantasy Dome in Accra on Friday, October 28, 2022.
According to the producers of Ebony Condoms, their objective with the new product is to fight against sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancies.
Speaking at the launch, the Executive Director of TFHO, Joseph Addo-Yobo stated that their product is the only condom in South Saharan Africa that is packaged with lubricants.
“It is called Ebony Plus because it is the first condom brand that has three sachets of condoms in its pack and then also has three sachets of lubricants, so each condom can be used with a lubricant,” he noted.
In her remarks, Elizabeth Williams, the Health Systems Strengthening Lead for USAID/Ghana said “low use of modern contraceptive methods lead to unplanned pregnancies, unsafe abortions and higher overall maternal mortality.
She added that USAID’s pledge is to work with the government of Ghana and the private sector to ensure that contraceptive options are available.
